Our bd p1600 blu ray player has stopped working. Please help.?

Hello all, thanks for looking at this question. My family has recently bought a bd p1600 samsung bluray player. It has been working fine for movies and netflix, etc. until last night. When we turned it on it asked if we wanted to do a firmware update so we said yes. After the update was over (about 30 minutes) the screen just went black for a long time so we tried to turn the player off. It wouldnt let us turn it off so we unplugged it. (bad idea?) Anyway, now whenever we turn it on it just stays at the blurry screen that always shows up right when you turn it on. We have waited long periods of time and nothing happens. Has anyone had this problem, can anyone offer help?
